Description

There are stones that do not shimmer so much as absorb, pulling light inward like a held breath. This pendant is built around a large oval cabochon of black onyx, its surface a deep, uniform obsidian that neither reflects nor relents. The stone is set in sterling silver, the bezel cut close and clean to hold the onyx without fuss, letting the contrast between cool metal and darker stone carry the entire argument. Sterling silver in this context does not perform; it frames. The silhouette is deliberately elongated, measuring four centimetres in height by roughly two centimetres in width (1.6 inches by 0.8 inches), and the pendant weighs a considered 9.5 grams, enough to hang with gravity and intention against the chest. There is no filigree here, no granulation, no applied ornament. The discipline is the craft. Worn against a cream or ivory silk kurta, the pendant reads as a single decisive stroke of ink. Equally, over a fine black merino or cashmere crewneck for a cooler evening, the onyx almost disappears into the fabric, leaving only the silver surround visible, which is its own quiet elegance. The free-size bail fits most standard chains up to a moderate width. The sterling silver will develop a gentle patina with regular wear; a soft cloth restores its brightness in moments. This is a pendant designed for daily gravity, not occasion storage.
