Description

There is a quality of patience in silver that reveals itself only when the hammer and the graver have finished their work. This pendant belongs to the tradition of embroidered metalwork, where sterling silver is worked in relief to mimic the density and texture of thread-on-cloth. The motif reads as a layered floral and geometric composition, built up from chased and repoussé surfaces that catch light at varying depths, much as a skilled karigar in the silver-working ateliers of Rajasthan or Cuttack would treat a ritual tray or a devotional frame. At its centre, a malachite cabochon anchors the piece: its banded green, opaque and cool, sits in quiet contrast to the warm oxidised silver ground. The pendant measures approximately eleven and a half centimetres in height by just over seven centimetres in width (4.50 inches by 2.80 inches), with a shallow depth of roughly a quarter of a centimetre. At 91.3 grams, it has the satisfying weight of considered craft. For occasion, pair this pendant over a cream or ivory chanderi kurta for a cultural evening or an arts gathering; it reads equally well against a deep-toned silk saree blouse at a formal dinner, where the malachite carries its own quiet conversation with green or teal borders. The piece is offered in free size with a standard bail suitable for most chains. Sterling silver of this construction wears well and polishes easily, making it a practical choice for frequent wear without loss of surface detail.
