Description

There is something ancient in the colour of lapis lazuli, the blue that scribes ground into pigment and kings wore on their seals. This ring is set in sterling silver, a metal prized for the clarity it brings to coloured stones. The deep, night-sky blue of the lapis sits at the centre of the composition, its surface unmarked by excessive polish, so that the natural matrix of the stone, those faint golden striations of pyrite, can read plainly against the skin. The setting is close and deliberate, holding the cabochon with a quiet firmness that speaks less of ornament and more of intention. At just 12 mm in height and 2 grams in weight, the piece carries the proportion of something worn and thought about rather than merely displayed. Lapis of this quality has long been worked by silver craftsmen across Rajasthan and Bikaner, where the tradition of pairing raw, uncut stone with oxidised and plain silver remains deeply respected. Wear it against the cream of a handwoven cotton kurta for an afternoon gathering, or let it accompany a fine silk blouse at an evening dinner where restraint reads as confidence. It moves with equal ease between a curated casual and a considered festive moment. The sterling silver band is smooth to the touch, sized for comfort across standard finger widths, and the low profile of the setting means it sits without snagging on fabric. It is the kind of ring one reaches for without deliberation.
