Description

Ganesha rendered in midnight blue: a pocket-sized prayer, set in silver. Carved from natural lapis lazuli and framed in sterling silver, this pendant carries a tradition that travels far beyond its modest dimensions. Lapis, mined for millennia and prized across Persian and Mughal courts alike, lends its deep indigo ground, gold-flecked with pyrite, to a form that is immediately recognisable: the beloved elephant-headed deity, seated or standing in devotional composure. Sterling silver, known for its cool, bright finish and workability, forms the setting and bale, holding the stone's carved relief with a precision that allows the natural matrix of the lapis to remain part of the portrait. The piece weighs just three grams and measures approximately 1.9 cm in height, 1.1 cm in width, and 0.6 cm in depth, qualities that speak to considered, close handwork rather than machine production. Thread it on a fine silver chain with a crisp white cotton kurta for morning prayers or a festive breakfast gathering. Equally, it sits with quiet authority over a silk blouse beneath a Kanjeevaram sari, the blue of the lapis picking up the indigo tones that Tamil weavers so often thread into their borders. At three grams it carries no burden on the chain. The free-size bale accommodates chains up to a comfortable width, and sterling silver, properly stored, resists daily wear with minimal maintenance, making this a piece suited to both devotion and daily life.
