Description

There are deities one does not simply wear; one carries them. Cast in sterling silver and finished with the considered hand of South Indian temple jewellery tradition, this pendant brings together Lakshmi and Narayan seated in divine union upon a lotus throne. The silhouette, one and a quarter inches tall by one inch wide (approximately 3.2 cm by 2.5 cm), is compact yet commanding. Temple jewellery from the Nagercoil and Thanjavur belt has long favoured this kind of iconic pairing, translating sacred iconography into wearable form with an almost architectural clarity. Here, the sterling silver carries the motif with quiet devotion: each petal of the lotus, each ornament on the divine figures, worked into the metal so that the weight of 5.88 grams sits purposefully against the chest rather than as mere decoration. Wear it on a fine silver chain over an off-white Chanderi kurta for a festive puja morning, or let it rest against the neckline of a silk blouse beneath a Kanjeevaram sari at a family celebration. The pendant bridges the devotional and the sartorial without straining for either. The free-size bale accommodates chains of varying thicknesses. Sterling silver develops a living patina over time; a soft polishing cloth restores its bright finish when desired. At this scale and weight, it sits flat and travels well, a piece suited to daily devotion as much as occasion.
