Description

There are clocks, and then there are keepsakes that measure time differently. This wrist watch reimagines the everyday timepiece through the language of Kundan, the centuries-old Rajasthani setting tradition in which fine foils of gold-toned metal are pressed between polished stones and a base frame to hold each piece firmly without prongs. Here, that same patient craft is applied to a brass base finished in the warm, oxidised tones of antique jewellery, giving the watch face and its surrounding bezel the depth of something excavated rather than manufactured. Kundan-set stones punctuate the case in the manner of a miniature medallion, their reflective surfaces catching light the way inlaid work from Jaipur's older ateliers does. The adjustable chain, measuring approximately 14.7 cm (5.8 inches) in length and 2.8 cm (1.1 inches) in width at the face, is itself adorned to match, so the piece reads as a unified ornament rather than a functional accessory. At 25 grams, the weight is present without being burdensome. Wear it with a hand-embroidered kurta at a daytime festive gathering, where it will hold its own against heavier jewellery without competing. For a more contemporary pairing, it sits beautifully against the sleeve of a silk shirt at a curated dinner. The adjustable chain accommodates most wrist sizes comfortably. The antique brass finish is consistent across the piece and requires only a soft, dry cloth to maintain its lustre between occasions.
