Description

There are melodies that need no string, only metal and memory to carry them forward. The bansuri, Krishna's inseparable companion, has inspired artisans across northern India for centuries, and here it appears rendered in warm-toned brass, shaped into a brooch that doubles as a pin. The piece spans a generous 2.8 inches wide (approximately 7.1 cm) and rises 1 inch tall (approximately 2.5 cm), the proportions deliberately horizontal to echo the flute's own elongated form. Weighing 17 grams, it carries a satisfying solidity in the hand. Brass, long favoured in devotional and folk jewellery traditions from Bengal to Rajasthan, lends this piece an earthy, antique warmth that no plated substitute can replicate. The motif sits at the intersection of temple craft sensibility and everyday wearability, a quietly devotional object that asks for no occasion beyond the wearer's own intent. Pin it to the fall of a handwoven cotton sari for a museum opening or a classical music evening, where the flute motif becomes a quiet conversation between the wearer and the art. It reads equally well fastened to the breast pocket of a raw-silk kurta at a festive gathering, adding considered detail without competing with heavier jewellery. The brooch is offered as a free size piece, the pin mechanism making it adaptable to varied weights of fabric. The brass finish requires only occasional gentle cleaning to maintain its warm, unlacquered character across years of thoughtful wearing.
