Description

Jada Muniswaran, the forest deity of the matted lock, rendered in silver that carries the weight of devotion. This pendant belongs to the living tradition of South Indian temple jewellery, where the divine is made wearable through painstaking silversmithing. The figure of Muniswaran, presiding deity of boundaries and wild groves, is rendered here in sterling silver with the kind of repoussé-adjacent detailing that speaks of skilled hands working the metal from behind, coaxing the god's form into relief. At 1.65 inches in height and 1.2 inches in width (approximately 4.2 cm by 3 cm), the pendant occupies precisely the right scale: present, never overwhelming. The silver carries a warm oxidised finish in the recessed areas, throwing the deity's features and matted jata into sharp clarity. At 12.5 grams, the piece has genuine heft, the kind that reminds the wearer it is there. Worn on a thin oxidised silver chain, it pairs naturally with a handwoven cotton Chettinad sari in indigo or rust, dressing a quiet afternoon with ancestral intention. For a contemporary pairing, it sits well against a raw-silk kurta in off-white at a family puja or a cultural gathering. The pendant is free-size in the truest sense: the bail accommodates most standard chains. Sterling silver rewards occasional polishing with a soft cloth. The oxidised finish in the recesses should be left untouched to preserve the depth of the motif.
