Description

She is protector, river-goddess and folk memory, held now in sterling silver small enough to rest at the hollow of a throat. Khodiyar Mata, revered across Gujarat and Rajasthan as a deity of healing and protection, here takes the form of a finely pressed and hand-detailed silver pendant. The goddess is rendered in a frontal, iconic stance rooted in the folk-devotional idiom: the kind of image that has appeared on votive plaques and temple walls for centuries before it ever reached a jeweller's bench. Sterling silver gives the piece a cool, honest weight, and the bright-polished finish catches light the way a freshly minted coin does, without artifice. At one point two centimetres tall and just under one point seven centimetres wide (1.2 inches by 0.65 inches), and weighing a precise 5.9 grams, this is a pendant scaled for daily devotion rather than display, intimate in its proportions and entirely unintimidating. Wear it on a thin silver chain with a starched white or ivory cotton kurta for a quiet morning puja aesthetic; or layer it over a deep-toned silk blouse beneath a Banarasi sari for a festival occasion where faith and finery meet naturally. The pendant is free size by nature of its bail fitting, which accepts most standard chains. The sterling silver requires only a soft cloth to maintain its polish, and the compact silhouette makes it practical for every day, from morning to evening, without snagging or weighing the neckline down.
