Description

She guards the threshold between the known world and the beyond, and now she rests at your collarbone. Gatral is a folk deity venerated quietly in village shrines across Rajasthan and Gujarat, a goddess outside the grand canonical pantheon yet no less potent for it. This pendant captures her in sterling silver, worked in the idiom of hand-pressed folk silversmithing where the silhouette itself carries the devotion. The figure is frontal and hieratic, her posture commanding, rendered in oxidised sterling that deepens every incised line and gives the surface an antique, almost tribal warmth. At roughly 3.2 centimetres tall and 2 centimetres wide, she is compact but carries real presence, weighing 5.1 grams on the chest. The silver is unadorned by stone, letting the form speak entirely through relief, texture and the play of light against burnished and shadowed planes. She suits a plain ivory chanderi kurta worn for a morning puja gathering, where the pendant reads as quiet intention rather than ornament. She works equally well over a fine black cotton dress at an evening of art or performance, where her folk severity becomes an aesthetic statement. The free-size bale fits chains up to standard width with ease, and the oxidised finish is stable for daily wear. At 5.1 grams the weight sits comfortably without pulling. Sterling silver rewards occasional polishing with a soft cloth to preserve that antique depth.
