Description

There are prayers that ask nothing, and adornments that speak in the same quiet register. This sterling silver pendant renders Lord Shiva in a devotional idiom rooted in the long silversmithing tradition of India's temple-jewellery craft. The figure is worked in high-relief repoussé, the karigars pressing and chasing the metal from behind so that Shiva's form emerges with sculptural presence rather than flat impression. The pendant measures approximately three centimetres in height by just over two centimetres in width (1.2 inch by 0.85 inch), and weighs a grounded 8.5 grams, substantial enough to confirm the quality of the sterling silver without becoming heavy at the throat. The finish is a matte oxidised silver, which deepens the carved detail and gives the piece the patina of something devotional and considered rather than decorative. A simple bale at the crown allows the pendant to be strung on a chain of your choosing. Worn against a fine ivory or cream silk kurta, it carries the ease of a daily ritual object. For more formal occasions, thread it on a finely gauge box chain and pair it with a woven cotton dhoti or a restrained linen bandhgala. At free size, the pendant fits any standard chain or cord. The sterling silver resists tarnish well with minimal care, and the oxidised finish, far from being fragile, actually deepens gracefully with time and touch.
