Description

There are devotions that ask to be worn close to the heart, and this is one of them. Cast in warm, antiqued brass, this brooch renders Hanuman mid-breath, conch shell raised to his lips, in a form that recalls the votive metalwork long practised by temple craftsmen across Rajasthan and the Deccan. The figural silhouette is bold and unhurried: every curl of the deity's posture, every fold of cloth at his waist, worked with the quiet confidence of a tradition that has always understood devotion as a kind of precision. Brass, chosen here for its sacred associations and its ability to hold an aged, tawny patina, gives the piece a gravitas that gold-plated substitutes rarely achieve. At two and a half inches high by two inches wide (approximately 6.4 cm by 5 cm) and weighing twenty grams, the brooch has genuine presence without becoming heavy. Pin it at the centre of a cream or ivory handloom kurta for a temple visit, letting the oxidised surface speak against undyed cotton. On a formal occasion, it anchors a dark silk blouse worn beneath a Banarasi sari, the antiqued brass reading as intentional and composed rather than ornamental. The standard pin-back closure sits flush and secure, making this suitable for everyday wear on medium-to-heavy fabrics. Free sized and requiring no adjustment, it travels easily and rewards those who believe that devotion, worn rightly, is its own kind of adornment.
