Description

There are prayers that take the form of silver. This pendant belongs to the devotional grammar of South Indian temple jewellery, a tradition refined over centuries in the ateliers of Nagercoil and the temple towns of Tamil Nadu. Goddess Lakshmi stands at its centre, framed by a pair of peacocks whose tail feathers spread outward in a symmetrical arc, a motif that invokes both sovereignty and abundance. The entire composition is realised in sterling silver, worked by hand to a finish that carries the warm, slightly antiqued luminosity characteristic of traditional temple craft. At roughly 3.1 inches in height (approximately 7.9 cm) and 2.5 inches in width (approximately 6.4 cm), the pendant has genuine presence without becoming unwearable; its 38 grams feel substantial and grounded against the body, a quality that mass-produced pieces rarely achieve. Wear it over a deep-necked Kanjivaram or a cotton Chettinad blouse for a festival morning, or let it anchor a cream linen kurta for a cultural evening where simplicity and intention matter equally. A broad antique silver chain or a thick twisted cord would do it justice; fine gold chains are best left aside here. The piece is offered as pictured, in a single free size. Sterling silver of this gauge wears well over time and responds readily to a soft cloth. The scale and weight make it a pendant meant to be noticed, and remembered.
