Description

She guards the threshold between the mortal and the divine, and now she rests, quietly radiant, at your throat. Tulja Bhawani, the fierce and protective goddess venerated across Maharashtra and beyond, is rendered here in sterling silver with an antique finish that lends her image the depth of devotion worn into old temple icons over generations. The pendant measures approximately 2.5 cm in height and 1.5 cm in width, its compact silhouette belying the detail pressed into the surface: the goddess in her commanding aspect, the oxidised silver settling into every recess to throw the raised relief into shadow and light. Antique-finish silverwork of this kind draws on a long tradition of devotional jewellery made by silversmiths who understood that tarnish, handled correctly, is not a flaw but a finishing tool. The piece weighs 6 grams, substantial enough to feel present without pulling. Wear her on a fine black silk cord over a cream Chanderi kurta for a morning of quiet ceremony, or layer her on a delicate silver chain against a contemporary linen dress for a museum opening or a family puja that spills into an evening gathering. At just over one inch tall, she sits comfortably at the collarbone or slightly below, depending on chain length. Sterling silver at this weight requires only occasional gentle cleaning to restore its lustre. This is a piece made to be inherited, not merely worn.
