Description

She guards the threshold between the sacred and the everyday, and now she rests close to the heart. Marikamba, the fierce and merciful goddess venerated across coastal Karnataka and into the Deccan, is rendered here in sterling silver with a devotion that recalls the votive craft traditions of South India. The pendant carries the goddess in high relief, her form rising from a worked silver ground in a silhouette that measures 1.6 inches (approximately 4 cm) in height and 1 inch (approximately 2.5 cm) in width. Weighing 9 grams, the piece sits with quiet authority, neither too slight to be seen nor too heavy to be worn daily. The silverwork draws on the repousse sensibility familiar to temple jewellery traditions, the surface alive with fine detailing around the deity's crown and frame. Sterling silver, with its warm grey-white lustre, lends this pendant an antique finish that deepens over time with wear. Pair it with a deep-bordered Kanjeevaram silk for a festival puja or a family wedding ceremony. It sits equally well against the neckline of a handloom cotton kurta on any ordinary Tuesday devoted to personal prayer. The pendant comes in free size, designed to thread onto a chain of your choosing, making it adaptable to a delicate silver rolo or a heavier temple-style chain already in your collection. The sterling silver construction is sturdy enough for daily devotion, requiring only an occasional gentle polish to restore its silver brightness.
