Description

She is the tenth Mahavidya, the goddess of the spoken word, and here she is rendered in sterling silver with an intimacy that feels almost devotional. Matangi's iconography has long found a home in the silversmith's craft, where the malleability of the metal allows for fine surface relief and the kind of considered detailing that gold rarely permits at this scale. This pendant presents the goddess as a contained, vertical form: slender, upright, measuring just 1.20 inches in height by 0.55 inches in width (approximately 3 cm by 1.4 cm), and weighing a precise 3 grams. The sterling silver carries a warm, slightly oxidised tone that brings the relief work forward, lending the figure depth and shadow. The silhouette is narrow enough to sit close to the sternum, the goddess held quietly against the skin rather than announced. There are no set stones, no gilding; the craft here is in the modelling of form itself, a discipline with deep roots in the silver-working traditions of Bengal and Odisha. Wear this pendant on a fine silver chain with a handloom cotton sari for a puja gathering, or thread it on a black silk cord with a linen kurta for a quieter, more everyday act of devotion. At free size, the pendant suits any chain gauge. The sterling silver is durable enough for regular wear and requires only occasional polishing with a soft cloth to retain its lustre.
