Description

She arrives in silver, terrible and magnificent, her many arms a chorus of divine resolve. Carved in sterling silver, this pendant renders Mahakali in her Ugra Roop, the fearsome aspect that Shakti devotees have venerated across centuries of Indian iconographic tradition. The figure is cast with uncommon care: each of the goddess's multiple arms is individually articulated, radiating outward in a gesture that is simultaneously wrathful and protective. The silverwork draws on a long lineage of devotional jewellery making, particularly the repoussé and lost-wax casting traditions associated with Bengal and the temple towns of Tamil Nadu, where sacred imagery in metal has always carried the weight of living worship. At 9.58 grams and measuring 4.44 centimetres in height by 2.54 centimetres in width, the pendant is substantial without being heavy, the sterling silver holding a warm, slightly antique lustre that deepens the gravity of the subject. Worn close to the throat on a fine silver chain against a deep red or black silk blouse, it reads as an act of devotion made visible. For Navratri puja gatherings or an intimate festive dinner, pair it with a handwoven Banarasi or a dark tussar sari to let the silver speak without competition. The free-size bail accommodates most chains up to a modest width. The finish is smooth at the reverse for comfortable all-day wear against the skin, and sterling silver of this gauge is durable enough for frequent, confident use.
