Description

There are prayers that travel quietly, worn close to the heart. This sterling silver pendant belongs to the South Indian Temple jewellery tradition, a craft whose grammar of gods and lotus thrones has been refined over centuries in workshops from Nagercoil to the Coromandel coast. At its centre, Goddess Lakshmi sits in full composure upon an open lotus, her posture radiating the unhurried abundance she embodies. The carving is accomplished in the round, with layered petals beneath her and the suggestion of a halo framing the figure, all rendered in oxidised sterling silver that deepens the relief and allows every contour to read with quiet clarity. At just five grams, the metal carries the motif without weight, and at one point two inches in height (approximately three centimetres), the pendant holds its own without competing for attention. Wear it on a fine silver chain over an off-white chanderi kurta for a morning of significance, a puja, a naming ceremony, or a festival gathering where restraint is its own form of devotion. It pairs equally well with a silk saree in ivory or pale gold, where the oxidised silver sits like a spoken blessing against the fabric. The pendant is free-sized by design, meaning the bail accommodates most standard chains. The oxidised finish is stable for daily wear, resistant to casual contact, and needs only a soft cloth to restore its depth. A considered, wearable act of faith.
