Description

She has been seated on the lotus since before memory, and here she is again, small enough to rest at the hollow of a throat. Cast in sterling silver and finished in a warm vintage patina, this pendant belongs to the living tradition of South Indian temple jewellery, where the deity is not merely depicted but made present. Goddess Lakshmi sits in her classical posture on a fully bloomed lotus, her form resolved with the kind of careful chasing that temple silversmiths have practised for generations, particularly along the Coromandel coast and in the ateliers of Nagercoil, where sacred iconography and the silversmith's hammer have long moved together. The vintage finish, gently oxidised into the recesses, gives each petal and fold of drapery its proper shadow and weight. At 5.38 grams, the piece carries a quiet substantiality. The standard size measures approximately 2.8 centimetres in height by 1.4 centimetres in width; the vintage variation sits slightly wider at 1.65 centimetres across. Wear it on a fine black thread over a silk kurta for a puja morning, or on a delicate gold-toned chain beneath the collar of a linen dress for a day of quiet intention. It moves between the devotional and the personal with ease. A free-size bail accommodates chains of varying thickness without fuss. The oxidised silver resists tarnish reasonably well and is straightforward to clean with a soft cloth, making it an undemanding piece for regular, faithful wear.
