Description

She arrives adorned, as she always has, in silver. Carved from sterling silver in the tradition of South Indian temple jewellery, this pendant presents Goddess Lakshmi in high-relief, her form rendered with the kind of patient hand-work that recalls the craftsmen of Nagercoil and the devotional silversmithing long practised in temple towns along the Coromandel Coast. The goddess is framed within an arch of foliate detailing, her posture serene and frontal in the classical manner of deity portraiture. Below the central figure, a row of dangling silver beads extends the composition downward, their gentle movement evoking the kinetic energy of traditional vaddanam and temple ornaments worn in ritual procession. The piece measures approximately 5.3 cm in height and 4.3 cm in width, and at 17.46 grams it carries a satisfying, substantive weight without feeling heavy against the chest. Wear it against the neckline of an ivory or deep red Kanjeevaram for a festive puja or wedding reception, where its devotional character will feel entirely at ease. For everyday elegance, it sits beautifully on a simple cotton kurta, letting the carved silverwork speak without competition. Sized to suit most neck lengths on a standard chain or cord, the pendant's polished sterling silver finish resists tarnish with ordinary care. A soft cloth buff between wearings keeps the relief work sharp and the silver lustrous across years of faithful wearing.
