Description

She has eight arms, and each one carries a story older than any dynasty that tried to name her. Cast and finished in sterling silver, this pendant renders Goddess Durga with the devotional exactness that South Indian silver-smithing has long reserved for sacred iconography. The motif sits within a shaped frame that lets the goddess breathe, her multiple arms radiating outward in careful relief, the silver surface worked to hold shadow where shadow belongs. At roughly 1.5 inches in height and 1.2 inches in width (approximately 3.8 cm by 3 cm), the pendant is compact without diminishing the deity; its 10.4 grams give it a satisfying, unhurried weight on the collarbone. Sterling silver in this tradition is left with a gentle antique finish rather than a high polish, so the metal reads as reverential rather than decorative, close in spirit to temple silverwork from Nagercoil and the ritual craft traditions of Tamil Nadu. Wear it on a fine silver chain over a raw silk kurta for Navratri, or let it anchor a linen shirt dressed simply for a puja gathering. The pendant moves between the ceremonial and the quietly everyday without effort or apology. The bail is generously proportioned to accept chains of varying thicknesses, and the sterling silver will not cause sensitivity against skin worn close. A soft cloth and mild polish periodically are all it asks; one piece, free size, ready to carry faith with discretion.
