Description

She arrives in silver, serene and sovereign. The face of Durga has been a devotional motif in Indian metalwork for centuries, rendered with particular feeling by silversmiths across Bengal and Odisha, where the goddess is not myth but a living presence. This pendant traces that tradition faithfully. Cast and finished in sterling silver, the goddess's features are worked with quiet precision: a composed brow, the suggestion of a third eye, and the halo-like frame that karigars have long used to elevate the divine face above the ordinary. At 1.25 inches in height and 0.75 inches in width (approximately 3.2 cm by 1.9 cm), the pendant is compact without being diminutive, and at 5.4 grams it carries real weight in the hand. The silver surface is finished to a warm, antique-toned depth that honours its sacred subject without ornament for ornament's sake. Wear it on a slim silver chain against a handloom cotton kurta for quiet daily devotion, or thread it on a black waxed cord and layer it beneath the neckline of a silk blouse for Navratri, where its meaning needs no introduction. The free-size pendant suits a range of chain lengths and sits well on both slender and fuller necklines. Sterling silver requires only occasional polishing with a soft cloth to maintain its lustre, making this a piece as practical as it is reverential.
