Description

There are prayers that travel quietly, worn close to the skin. The Gau, a traditional Tibetan-Nepali reliquary box, has long been a vessel for devotion, its rectangular face designed to hold a sacred image or mantra within. This sterling silver pendant honours that form without diluting it: a slender, upright box, just 1.7 inches (approximately 4.3 cm) tall and 0.4 inches (approximately 1 cm) wide, its surface finished in oxidised silver that draws out every engraved detail and gives the metal a softly aged character. The centrepiece is a single cabochon stone, available in amethyst or lapis lazuli. The amethyst brings a cool violet depth; the lapis, with its night-sky intensity, recalls the pigments that once travelled the ancient trade routes. The silver surround frames each stone simply, letting the material carry the weight of meaning. At 10 grams, the piece sits with quiet authority. Wear it on a long silver chain over a handloom cotton kurta for an everyday steadiness that needs no occasion; or let it rest against a raw-silk blouse at a festive gathering, where its restrained geometry reads as considered rather than decorative. The pendant is free size, designed to suit any chain gauge a wearer already owns. The oxidised finish requires only the lightest care to maintain its depth, and the piece transitions easily from morning to evening without adjustment or afterthought.
