Description

She arrives bearing lotus and vessel, her four arms a quiet sermon in sterling. Rooted in the temple jewellery tradition of South India, where Nagercoil and the workshops of Tamil Nadu have long cast devotional figures with sculptural authority, this pendant renders Goddess Lakshmi in her four-armed form with careful attention to iconographic detail. Each hand holds its sacred attribute: the abhaya mudra, the lotus, the pot of abundance. The relief work, typical of classical temple-style silver casting, gives the figure a three-dimensional presence rather than a flat impression. Weighing just four and a half grams and standing one and a quarter inches tall (approximately three point two centimetres), the pendant sits close to the collarbone with a composed gravity. The sterling silver carries a finish that reads warm rather than cold, closer in spirit to antiqued temple votives than to commercial shine. Wear it on a fine silver chain over an ivory Kanjivaram blouse during Diwali puja, where it will read as devotional adornment without any artifice. It works equally well threaded on a black silk cord over a deep-toned anarkali for festive evenings when restraint is its own statement. The free-size design suits any neckline, and the pendant's modest weight means it lies flat and still without pulling. Sterling silver of this gauge is durable enough for regular wear and polishes easily with a soft cloth, keeping the surface detail clean.
