Description

There are mornings made for music, and this pendant belongs to them. Ganesha at play on the flute is a quieter vision of the Vighnaharta than the enthroned, frontal icons one expects. Here, the deity tilts into movement, his trunk curved with attention, his posture loose with joy. The silhouette is rendered in sterling silver, a metal that rewards fine line work, and the carvers have used that generosity well: the modelling is crisp enough to read at scale yet tender in its detail. The piece is offered in two finishes, a bright polish that catches light cleanly, and a vintage treatment that settles a soft, antiqued depth into the recesses of the relief, throwing the form into relief the way old temple silverwork does naturally. The vintage size measures one inch in height by 0.4 inches in width (roughly 2.5 cm by 1 cm); the polish sizes run from 0.65 inches by 0.25 inches (1.65 cm by 0.64 cm) up to 1.1 inches by 0.5 inches (2.8 cm by 1.3 cm). The piece weighs 2.9 grams. The vintage finish reads beautifully against a Kanjivaram silk worn to a morning puja or a small family celebration. The polished smaller size sits just as well on a fine chain beneath a linen kurta on an ordinary Tuesday. Sterling silver is forgiving in daily wear. A soft cloth keeps the polish alive; the antiqued version needs almost no maintenance and only grows more characterful with time.
