Description

The colour of still water caught in afternoon light, this string carries a quiet, unhurried beauty. Faux turquoise has a long and affectionate history in Indian adornment, standing in for the real Tibetan and Persian stones that once travelled along ancient trade routes into Rajasthan and beyond. The chips here are irregular in the way that natural stones are irregular, each one tumbled to a softly faceted surface that catches light without demanding it. Their blue-green hue, cool and muted, references the turquoise traditionally beloved in Jaipur's silver and gold work, where the stone appears in everything from Meenakari borders to Kundan-set chokers. Strung on a single string measuring sixteen inches, approximately forty-one centimetres in length, and weighing seventeen grams, the strand has a casual, unpretentious weight that sits comfortably at the collarbone. A single string worn alone reads quietly modern against a fine cotton kurta in ivory or chalk. Layer two or three strands together over a simple, square-necked kurti for a textured, artisanal effect at an afternoon gathering or a casual festive lunch. Free-sized at sixteen inches, this string suits most necklines without adjustment. The chip format, with its gently uneven surfaces, makes the strand resilient for daily wear. At a modest weight, it does not pull or fatigue the neck, and the cool blue-green tone works across seasons, transitioning easily from summer linens to winter silks without a moment's hesitation.
