Description

There is something quietly otherworldly about a stone that holds the colour of a Peruvian glacier within it. Each bead in this strand has been faceted by hand from natural Peru opal, a stone prized for its serene celadon-to-aqua palette and its glassy, semi-translucent depth. Unlike the iridescent fire opal of popular imagination, Peruvian opal carries its colour with restraint: a cool, mineral softness that recalls still water or pale Himalayan jade. The faceting is precise and deliberate, coaxing light into each of the approximately 122 rondell beads strung across the full eighteen-inch length (roughly 45.7 cm) of the strand. At four millimetres average diameter, the beads are slender enough to layer generously yet substantial enough to wear alone. The strand weighs twenty grams, giving it a pleasing, grounded presence at the collarbone without strain. Wear it over a hand-block-printed chanderi kurta in ivory for a morning occasion where restraint reads as confidence. In the evening, it softens the formality of a silk organza blouse when layered over a single strand of freshwater pearls. Strung at free size on an eighteen-inch string, this strand suits most necklines without adjustment. The rondell cut catches light cleanly throughout the day, and the natural variation in each bead means no two strands are precisely alike. A gentle wipe with a soft cloth after wear is all the care this piece asks for.
