Description

There are stones that hold light the way a garden holds rain, quietly, completely. This faceted multi-colour tourmaline ring belongs to the quieter tradition of silver jewellery made for those who know what they are looking at. Sterling silver, worked into a setting that cradles the tourmaline rather than overwhelms it, draws on the lapidary sensibility long associated with Jaipur's stone-cutters, where tourmalines in watermelon, rose, mint and olive are sorted, calibrated and faceted with a patience that no machine has yet replicated. The stone sits at a height of 18 mm, giving it presence without drama; the setting lifts it just enough to catch the light from every angle. At 8 grams, the ring has a satisfying weight on the finger, neither costume-light nor cumbersome. Sterling silver, cool and honest, lends itself to a brushed or lightly polished finish that ages gracefully and resists the pretension of gold plating. Wear it with a cotton mulmul kurta in ivory for a Sunday afternoon that needs no occasion, or pair it with a fine silk blouse for an evening where one considered piece says more than several. It suits the woman who edits, not accumulates. Available in size 10, this ring is designed for an index or middle finger worn with intention. The sterling silver is well-suited to daily use, requiring only occasional polishing with a soft cloth. Three buyers in India have already made it their own.
