Description

There are mornings when light does not fall so much as pour, and this strand was made for exactly that quality of radiance. Each of the approximately thirty-four briolettes is cut to maximise the play of light through the stone, and the effect is immediate: a warm, resinous gold-yellow, somewhere between sun-steeped honey and pale citrus peel, travelling through facets that have been shaped with the patience the gem demands. Beer lemon topaz of this clarity is selected for its particular softness of colour, neither garish nor washed out, and the briolette cut, with its teardrop silhouette and angled facets, is among the oldest lapidary forms still practised by skilled cutters. Each bead averages twelve millimetres, strung across a 7.5-inch (roughly 19-centimetre) length, the whole weighing fifty grams, which gives the necklace a satisfying, unhurried weight at the collarbone. Wear it against an ivory chanderi kurta for an afternoon gathering where you wish to be quietly noticed, or layer it over a deep teal silk blouse as the single jewel at an evening table where everything else is restrained. The topaz catches candlelight without competing with it. Sized as a free-size strand with standard stringing, the piece sits close at the neck and requires no clasp adjustment for most wearers. The faceted surface resists dulling with ordinary wear, and the strand is robust enough for regular use, not merely occasion dressing.
