Description

Colour is prayer, and on this pendant it is pressed into silver like a whispered devotion. The fluted form rises to just under four and a half centimetres tall and a little over two centimetres wide, holding at its centre a portrait of Krishna rendered with the precision that Meenakari demands. The enamel work draws on a tradition refined in the workshops of Rajasthan, where craftsmen grind mineral pigments into molten colour and fire them in careful sequence, layer by cooling layer, until the surface holds its glow permanently. Sterling silver is the chosen ground here, and rightly so: its bright white finish lets the enamel sing without competition. The fluted border around Krishna's figure recalls the ribbed margins found in classical temple jewellery, lending the piece an architectural confidence rare in pendants of this modest weight. For everyday devotion, thread it on a fine silver chain and pair it with a white chanderi kurta or a pale silk salwar. For a more composed occasion, let it anchor the neckline of a deep-toned Banarasi blouse, where its enamelled blues and greens will read as intentional punctuation. The pendant weighs just six grams, which means it rests lightly through long hours of wear. At free size it is designed for any chain gauge the wearer prefers. The sterling silver base is finished to a clean polish that resists dulling and responds well to a soft cloth.
