Description

There are moments when devotion becomes something you can hold in your palm. Cast in sterling silver, this pendant brings together Radha and Krishna in a seated composition of extraordinary tenderness, the divine pair poised beside the makhan matki, that beloved butter pot whose presence roots the scene in the playful mythology of Vrindavan. At 1.2 inches in height by 0.9 inches in width (approximately 3 cm by 2.3 cm) and a considered weight of 6.17 grams, the piece sits with quiet gravity against the skin. The silver has been worked to capture fine figural detail, the expressions and drapery rendered with the kind of patient hand-finishing that belongs to a long tradition of devotional silver craft practised across Rajasthan and the temple towns of South India. The surface holds a warm, oxidised depth in its recessed lines, allowing the raised forms of the figures to catch the light with clarity and intention. A pendant of this character belongs equally to a quiet morning puja ritual worn close to the chest, and to a formal occasion: layered over ivory silk or a deep Banarasi weave at a wedding reception, it carries its sacred motif with restrained elegance rather than ornament for ornament's sake. At free size with a standard bail, it accommodates most chains comfortably. The sterling silver construction resists daily tarnish with minimal care, and the compact dimensions make it a piece one reaches for often, and lightly.
