Description

There are devotions that require no temple, only the right piece of silver worn close to the heart. This pendant carries Lord Krishna in antique-finish sterling silver, the deity rendered with the care that belongs to a tradition of sacred iconography stretching from the silver ateliers of Rajasthan to the temple-jewellery workshops of South India. The figure is worked in relief, the surface then oxidised to draw shadow into every fold and feature, so that the contours of the form read with depth and age. At roughly 3.8 centimetres tall and 2 centimetres wide, the pendant occupies a considered scale, neither devotional miniature nor theatrical statement piece. Weighing 10 grams, the sterling silver carries the quiet density of well-made metal, solid in the hand and warm against skin. The antique patination lends an heirloom quality without the heirloom price. Wear it on a fine silver chain over a cream chanderi kurta for a festive afternoon, the oxidised silver reading beautifully against pale, matte weaves. For a quieter register, let it rest against a silk blouse beneath a cotton sari in indigo or taupe, a piece of faith worn as refined personal expression. The free-size bail accommodates most chains. The oxidised finish is stable for regular wear, though it benefits from being kept away from perfume and water to preserve its depth. A soft cloth is all it needs to stay luminous.
