Description

She has been worshipped in gold for millennia; here she arrives in brass and lacquer, small enough to pin above the heart. Rooted in the temple jewellery tradition of South India, this brooch presents Goddess Lakshmi in high-relief embossing, her form pressed and chased into a brass silver alloy that carries the weight and warmth of an heirloom without requiring one. The silhouette is devotional and architectural: upright, symmetrical, framed by the kind of border detailing that recalls the votive plaques hung in Nagercoil and Thanjavur shrines for centuries. A lacquer finish settles into the recesses of the embossing, deepening the contrast between the raised goddess figure and the ground behind her, lending the piece an antique richness that no simple polish could achieve. At 32 grams, the brass alloy gives the brooch genuine presence without burdening lighter fabrics. Wear it pinned at the neckline of a cream Chanderi sari for a Diwali puja gathering, where its devotional character reads as both personal and celebratory. It works equally well on the lapel of a raw-silk kurta worn to a wedding reception, anchoring an otherwise unfussy silhouette with sacred intention. Measuring 2 inches in height by 1.2 inches in width (approximately 5 cm by 3 cm), the brooch is a free-size piece fitted with a standard pin fastening at the reverse. The lacquer surface requires no special care beyond a soft, dry cloth, making it a practical choice for regular wear.
