Description

There is a quietness to silver that gold can never quite replicate, and this pendant knows it. Worked in sterling silver by hands fluent in the restrained vocabulary of contemporary Indian silversmithing, this piece centres on a faceted oval gemstone, its precise cuts drawing light inward in the manner of a cut-glass lantern. The silhouette is elongated and architectural, measuring 1.9 inches (4.8 cm) in height and 0.75 inches (1.9 cm) in width, with a slim depth of 0.25 inches (0.6 cm) that sits flush and flat against the collarbone. The stone is claw-set, allowing light to travel through the gem from every angle. Three colour editions are offered: amethyst in its characteristic violet-plum; green sapphire in a cool, considered olive-teal; and peridot in the bright, grassy green that Mughal lapidaries prized for its clarity. The sterling silver frame is polished to a clean, high lustre, a finish that allows the gemstone to remain the sole point of conversation. At 10 grams, the pendant carries a reassuring, quality-conscious weight. Wear the amethyst edition with a raw silk kurta in ivory or blush for a festive lunch; pair the peridot or green sapphire against a handloom cotton sari in deep navy or charcoal for evenings that ask for restraint with intention. The free-size bail accommodates most chain gauges. At 10 grams, it travels well and requires only a soft cloth to maintain its polish through seasons of wearing.
