Description

At the foot of Arunachala, where fire and form became one, this pendant holds that darshan still. Arunachalesvara, the elemental Shiva worshipped at Tiruvannamalai as the lord of fire and the sacred hill, appears here in sterling silver, his presence rendered with the quiet authority of South Indian temple iconography. The tradition of casting deity pendants in silver draws on centuries of practice across Tamil Nadu and the Karnataka coast, where silversmiths trained their hands to honour the precise mudra, the exact crown, the layered prabha that makes each form unmistakable to the devotee. At 1.55 inches height by 1 inch width (approximately 3.9 cm by 2.5 cm), the silhouette is devotional without being unwieldy. The surface carries the cool, matte luminosity particular to worked sterling, and the piece weighs a considered 9.9 grams, substantial enough to convey intent. Wear it on a fine black thread for daily puja visits or a quiet morning at the temple. Against a Kanjivaram silk in deep red or a handloom cotton kurta in off-white, it rests at the collarbone with the gravity of a family heirloom. The free-size bail accommodates both slender and heavier chains. Sterling silver at this weight sits close to the chest without pulling, and the finish resists tarnish well when kept away from moisture. A cloth pouch is all the care it asks for between wearings.
