Description

A batsman mid-swing, caught forever in polished brass. India's love for cricket is ancient enough now to deserve its own craft tradition, and this brooch honours exactly that. Cast in solid brass and finished to a warm golden tone, the figure is rendered with pleasing sculptural detail: bat raised, body coiled in that familiar arc of anticipation that every Indian household recognises. At 2.25 inches tall and 1.35 inches wide (roughly 5.7 cm by 3.4 cm), the silhouette is bold without being overwrought. Weighing 15 grams, it carries the satisfying heft of a piece made from real metal rather than hollow casting. Brass has a long history in Indian decorative arts, from temple votives to folk jewellery across Bengal and Rajasthan, and here it lends the motif a dignified, almost commemorative quality. Wear it pinned to the breast pocket of a cream linen kurta for a Test match afternoon, or fix it to the lapel of a structured blazer at a cricket club dinner where the conversation will inevitably find it. It bridges the sporting and the sentimental with quiet confidence. The pin closure at the reverse is sturdy and flat-lying, keeping the brooch upright on most fabrics without pulling. One size suits all wearers. Brass requires only an occasional gentle buff with a soft cloth to maintain its lustre, making this an effortlessly practical piece for regular wear.
