Description

There are circles that close, and circles that open outward into colour. This pendant traces its language to the tribal and folk silversmithing traditions that run through Rajasthan and the hill regions of central India, where sterling silver is worked into bold, confident rounds meant to be seen. The circular frame, approximately 3 inches tall and 2.3 inches wide (roughly 7.6 cm by 5.8 cm), holds its form with quiet authority. Set within it are pieces of deep-sea coral and lapis lazuli, two stones that have travelled trade routes for centuries, prized in Indian jewellery long before gemstone trends were invented. The coral brings a warm, almost terracotta heat; the lapis answers with the dark blue of a monsoon sky just before it breaks. Sterling silver surrounds them in a worked setting that lets neither stone overwhelm the other. At 30 grams, this is a pendant with genuine physical presence. Wear it against a handloom cotton kurta in ivory or undyed khadi, and the coral reads like a sunset caught in cloth. It is equally at ease over a simple merino wool turtleneck for a winter wedding or an arts festival where such things are noticed and quietly admired. The pendant is free-sized in the sense that matters: it suits any neckline from a deep V to a high round neck, depending on the chain length chosen. The sterling silver will develop a gentle patina with time, which only deepens its character.
