Description

She severs and she sustains, and in sterling silver she becomes something you carry close to the heart. Chhinnamasta, the self-decapitating goddess of the Shakta tradition, is among the most philosophically charged forms in the tantric pantheon. Here she is rendered in sterling silver with a level of iconographic precision that honours the tradition she belongs to. The figure holds her own severed head, three streams of blood arcing upward, nourishing her attendants Dakini and Varnini on either side. The relief work is finely articulated, the silver surface carrying a warm antique finish that gives each contour weight and shadow. Measuring 1.5 inches in height by 1 inch in width (approximately 3.8 cm by 2.5 cm) and weighing 7.2 grams, the pendant sits with quiet authority rather than overwhelming the neckline. The reverse is clean and smooth, the bail worked neatly for a chain to pass through with ease. This is the silversmithing tradition that runs through Bengal and eastern India, where deity pendants carry devotional as much as decorative intent. Wear it on a dark silk blouse for a Kali Puja gathering, where the iconography will be immediately understood and appreciated. It is equally right layered over a fine cotton kurta for a cultural evening or museum visit, where it opens conversation about goddess theology and the tantric arts. The free-size bail accommodates chains from slender box-links to heavier silver cords. At 7.2 grams it rests without pulling, cool and grounded against the skin.
