Description

There are stones that seem to hold the last light of a winter dusk, and charoite is one of them. Found only in the Murun massif of Siberia, charoite arrives in jewellery as a phenomenon rather than merely a gemstone. Its swirling violet and lavender patterns, sealed beneath a smooth cabochon, cannot be replicated by any lapidary hand. Here, a single generous cab is cradled in a sterling silver bezel, the setting shaped to follow the stone's own contours rather than impose geometry upon it. The silver itself is finished to a soft lustre, neither high-polished nor oxidised, so that nothing competes with the stone's natural aurora. At approximately 3.8 cm tall, 2.9 cm wide and 0.76 cm deep, and weighing a substantial 17 grams, the pendant occupies the neckline with quiet authority. A simple bale completes the piece, sized to accept most chains and cords. Wear it against an ivory silk kurta for a formal evening, where the violet speaks for itself. Or layer it on a fine silver chain over a slate linen shirt for a gallery afternoon, where its geological drama suits the moment perfectly. The free-size bale accommodates chains up to a standard width with ease. Sterling silver wears well against skin and polishes back without fuss. At roughly 17 grams, the pendant has presence without strain, a piece that rewards daily wear precisely because it needs no occasion to justify itself.
