Description

There are stones that carry the warmth of a late afternoon sun long after it has set. Carnelian has always been a stone of quiet certainty. Prized in ancient Indian trade routes and worn as a talisman across Rajasthan and Gujarat, it arrives here set into sterling silver with the kind of unhurried confidence that belongs to jewellery made without shortcuts. The deep reddish-orange of the cabochon catches light differently by hour, moving from amber to ember depending on the season and the room. At twelve millimetres in height, the ring has a considered presence on the hand, neither overwrought nor too modest to notice. Sterling silver, chosen here for the cool grey clarity it lends against warm stone, is worked into a setting that lets the carnelian sit flush and secure, its surface uninterrupted. The piece weighs just two grams, a reminder that restraint in material does not mean restraint in intention. Wear it on a single finger against a silk kurta in ivory or dusty rose for an afternoon gathering, where it reads as something inherited rather than newly bought. In the evening, it holds its own alongside a simple raw-silk sari in ochre or rust, requiring no accompaniment. The ring is offered in a standard size corresponding to its twelve-millimetre height, and the sterling silver develops a gentle patina with daily wear that only deepens its character. A soft cloth is all it asks for in return.
