Description

There is a quiet drama to deep orange stone set in silver that feels ancient without trying. The carnelian at the heart of this pendant is cut into a smooth, domed cabochon, its warm amber-orange depth catching light the way embers do, unhurried and steady. Set within sterling silver, the stone is framed by a border of marcasite detailing, those tiny iron pyrite cuts faceted and pressed flush into the metal in a technique that draws from early twentieth-century European silversmithing but sits equally at home within the Indian tradition of stone-set silver jewellery from Rajasthan and Bengal. Marcasite work demands precise setting by hand, each small stone individually secured so that the finished surface reads as a continuous shimmer rather than a cluster of separate elements. The result here is a pendant that measures approximately three and a half centimetres tall by one and a half centimetres wide (1.45 inches by 0.6 inches), weighing just 4.33 grams, composed entirely in sterling silver. Wear it on a fine silver chain with an ivory or cream cotton kurta for afternoon gatherings, or layer it over a deep teal silk blouse for an evening occasion where restraint is its own kind of elegance. The free-size bail accommodates most chain thicknesses. Sterling silver benefits from occasional polishing with a soft cloth to maintain its lustre. Light, practical and precisely made, this pendant carries the kind of quiet confidence that does not need to announce itself.
