Description

There are stones that do not shimmer so much as brood, and tanzanite, in its deep violet-blue, is one of them. This ring centres a single cabochon tanzanite, polished to a smooth dome that holds light without fracturing it, set in sterling silver that has been worked into a close, bezel-style mount. The bezel cradles the stone cleanly, letting its saturated colour speak without the distraction of prongs or filigree. Sterling silver, long favoured in the cooler-toned jewellery traditions of Rajasthan and the hill workshops of Bengal, brings a subdued, almost pewter-like quality to the setting. The ring sits at a profile height of just 0.2 inches (approximately 0.5 cm), low enough to rest against the finger with quiet confidence. At 3.26 grams, it is light on the hand yet present in the way that honest metalwork always is. The cabochon cut, preferred for tanzanite because it preserves the stone's depth of colour, gives this piece an air of restraint that polished facets sometimes dissolve. Wear it against a silk kurta in slate or ivory for an evening gathering, or pair it with a white linen shirt and minimal gold studs for an afternoon where understatement is the point. The violet-blue of tanzanite reads differently under candlelight than under an afternoon sun, making this a ring that earns a second glance. Available in size 7, it slips on without ceremony. The sterling silver will patinate gently with wear, softening into a finish that improves with time and use.
