Description

There are rings, and then there are declarations worn on the finger. The peacock has presided over Indian decorative arts for centuries, from the carved friezes of Rajasthani havelis to the enamelled pendants of Mughal court jewellery. Here, a single peacock is rendered in brass, its body arching upward into a sculptural figurine that forms the entire face of the ring. At 1.4 inches (approximately 3.6 cm) in height, the motif commands attention without apology. Brass, long favoured by folk artisans across Rajasthan and Bengal for its warm, burnished tone and workability, lends the bird a golden-amber glow that deepens in candlelight. The free-size band accommodates most fingers with a gentle flex, and the piece weighs a grounded 8 grams, present on the hand without heaviness. Wear this ring with a block-printed cotton kurta and oxidised silver bangles for a studied, craft-forward afternoon look. It carries itself equally well alongside a silk chanderi saree at an intimate festive gathering, where its folk sensibility reads as intention rather than accident. The free-size construction means the band can be adjusted slightly at home to suit the wearer's preferred finger. The brass finish benefits from occasional wiping with a dry cloth to preserve its lustre, and is best kept away from prolonged moisture. At 8 grams, it sits comfortably for all-day wear, a small, considered pleasure rooted in a motif that Indian craft has never stopped celebrating.
