Description

There are prayers that do not need words, only silver. This pendant renders Shiva in his most benevolent aspect, the raised palm of abhaya mudra extending a blessing that silversmiths have translated into devotional jewellery for generations. Cast and hand-finished in sterling silver, the figure carries the quiet gravity of temple craft, recalling the votive silverwork long practised by artisans in Tamil Nadu and along the sacred corridors of Varanasi. The surface is worked to bring forward the deity's form in gentle relief, the oxidised recesses deepening the detail of matted locks, the third eye, and the serene downward gaze. At one point two five centimetres in height and point seven five centimetres across (roughly three point two centimetres by one point nine centimetres), the pendant is precisely proportioned, and at six point one grams it rests with substance rather than weight against the chest. Worn on a fine silver chain against a cream or ivory kurta, it speaks the language of daily devotion without ornamentation. Paired with a silk saree for a puja, a festival, or a family occasion, it carries the solemnity that understated religious jewellery has always held in Indian dress. The free-size bail accommodates chains of varying widths, and the sterling silver construction means the finish will deepen beautifully with time and occasional polishing. This is a piece made for everyday faith as much as for ceremony, small in dimension, unhurried in its presence.
