Description

He who guards the threshold asks to be worn close to the heart. Bhairava, the fierce and protective aspect of Shiva, has been venerated in silver across the temple towns of Rajasthan, Varanasi and the Deccan for centuries. This sterling silver pendant gives him a face of remarkable intentionality: the characteristic wide eyes, the crown, the expression that hovers between wrath and grace. Turn the piece over and the reverse carries his yantra, the geometric diagram that distils his energy into a precise visual grammar of triangles and lines. The two faces together make this a devotional object as much as an ornament, a tradition with deep roots in Indian tantric silversmithing where the yantra and the deity are considered inseparable. Cast and finished in sterling silver, the pendant weighs five grams and measures approximately 3.3 cm in height and 2.5 cm in width, a considered size that wears with presence without overwhelming. Pair it with a raw silk kurta in ivory or charcoal for a meditation retreat or a morning puja at home. It reads equally well over a fine cotton shirt worn open-collared, lending a quiet spiritual gravity to an otherwise contemporary outfit. The sterling silver develops a gentle patina with time, which only deepens the antiqued quality of the detailing. At free size with its bail ready for a chain of your choice, it suits daily wear for those who carry their faith as quietly as their craft.
