Description

There are silences in silver that only turquoise knows how to fill. This pendant is wrought in sterling silver, its surface given over to a single, generously set turquoise stone that holds the eye the way still water does. The setting draws on a long tradition of stone-studded silverwork practised across Rajasthan, where the pairing of oxidised or polished sterling with sky-coloured turquoise has been a karigar's reflex for generations. The silver here is worked to cradle the stone rather than compete with it, with a frame that has clean architectural lines softened by careful hand-finishing. Measuring one and a half inches in height by one inch in width (approximately 3.8 cm by 2.5 cm), and weighing a substantial thirteen grams, the piece carries a quiet heft that speaks of honest metal and unhurried making. The turquoise, that most democratic of semi-precious stones, brings its characteristic blue-green calm to the whole composition. Wear it on a long silver chain over a white mulmul kurta for afternoon gatherings, or let it anchor the neckline of a slate-grey silk blouse at a festive dinner where you wish to be noticed without announcing yourself. The free-size bail accommodates chains of most common widths.
