Description

There are stones that remember the sky before it decided to be blue. This pendant holds a generous cabochon of purple turquoise, a rare chromatic cousin of the more familiar teal, set within a sterling silver frame whose oxidised detailing draws the eye to every carved contour. The bezel setting cradles the stone flush and secure, allowing the violet and grey veining within the cabochon to read as a kind of quiet landscape. Sterling silver, worked to this weight and intricacy, is the natural choice of artisans in Jaipur's gemstone quarter, where the tradition of silver-and-cabochon jewellery predates Mughal influence and persists today in workshops that still shape bezels by hand. The piece measures approximately 4.6 cm in height and 2.9 cm in width, with a depth of just 0.5 cm, and weighs a substantial ten grams that gives it a satisfying, grounded presence without becoming heavy at the throat. Wear it against an ivory or dove-grey block-printed kurta for afternoon gatherings, where the purple reads as considered and restrained. For an evening occasion, layer it over a silk chanderi blouse in charcoal or slate and let the oxidised silver carry the richness. The pendant comes in a single free size with a standard bail that accommodates most chains up to medium gauge. The oxidised sterling finish resists tarnish well with ordinary care, making this a piece one reaches for repeatedly, not merely on occasion.
