Description

Half god, half goddess, wholly transcendent. Ardhanarishvara is among the most philosophically charged forms in the Hindu iconographic canon, the left half Shakti, the right half Shiva, the two principles of creation held in one still, vertical body. This sterling silver pendant renders that unity with quiet reverence: the composite figure rises to a height of approximately 3.8 cm (1.5 inches) and spans 2 cm (0.8 inches) across, cast and finished by hand to preserve the fine line work that separates the feminine and masculine halves. The silver, weighing 7.16 grams, carries the cool, honest lustre that only sterling sustains over years of wear. There are no inlaid stones here to compete with the iconography itself; the surface relies on relief carving and an oxidised finish that pulls shadow into the grooves, giving the deity's features and attributes their quiet depth. The tradition of casting devotional figures in silver is deeply rooted in the ateliers of Jaipur and the temple-jewellery traditions of Nagercoil, and this pendant honours that lineage without imitation. Wear it on a fine silver chain against a silk kurta for a puja morning that refuses to be ordinary, or let it rest at the throat of a plain linen dress on a day when you want your jewellery to do the speaking. The free-size bail accommodates most chains. Sterling silver at this weight sits close to the skin without pulling and requires only occasional polishing to retain its character.
