Description

There are devotions that are worn, not merely believed. This brooch belongs to the living tradition of Naga jewellery rooted in South and East Indian temple aesthetics, where the cobra, the Shiva Lingam and the rudraksha bead are not decorative symbols but cosmological ones. Cast in brass and finished in a deep, burnished antique patina, the piece centres a stylised Shiva Lingam rising from the coil of a Naga serpent, its hood spread in the posture of protection. A rudraksha bead, sacred to Shiva and associated with renunciation and clarity, is set into the composition with quiet authority. The antique finish, achieved through controlled oxidation, draws shadow into the relief work, giving the surface the gravity of old temple metal. Measuring approximately 5.97 cm in height by 3.05 cm in width and weighing 14.52 grams, the piece has real presence without excess. Wear it at the neckline of a Kanjeevaram silk at a puja or religious ceremony, where its iconography speaks a language the occasion already understands. It sits with equal conviction pinned to the lapel of a handwoven linen kurta for a cultural event or gallery opening, anchoring a spare, thoughtful look. Free-sized and fastened by a standard brooch pin at the reverse, it is practical for everyday devotional wear as well as curated occasions. The brass holds its antique finish well, requiring only a light, dry cloth to maintain its temple-bronze warmth.
