Description

She stands at the threshold between devotion and adornment. In Indian silver craft, few motifs carry the weight of Goddess Durga with such quiet authority. This brooch, worked in sterling silver and finished in a deliberate antique patina, draws from a long tradition of devotional silverwork that flourished across Bengal and the temple towns of South India. The aged surface, darkened into the recesses and brightened at the raised relief, gives the goddess her dimension: the crown, the many arms, the composure of one who holds everything in balance. Measuring 1.25 inches in height by 1 inch in width (approximately 3.2 cm by 2.5 cm) and weighing 11.2 grams, the piece is compact enough to read as a refined accent rather than a statement of excess. The sterling silver base ensures lasting structure without heaviness. Pin it at the shoulder of a cream Banarasi silk blouse for a puja gathering, letting the antique finish echo the aged zari. For everyday elegance, it sits beautifully on the lapel of a fine wool shawl or a handloom cotton kurta in ivory or rust. Free-sized and fitted with a standard brooch pin at the reverse, this piece requires no adjustment and no special care beyond a soft cloth. The antique finish is intentional and sealed, resisting the kind of wear that strips lesser pieces of their character over time.
